Rogue-Umpqua Divide Cripple Camp to Hershberger Mountain - October 25, 2014
Coordinator Edwin Case, narration by Lois Soulia per Edwin's Hike Report and pictures by Rachel Swieck

There were only five intrepid souls who braved the rotten weather conditions to follow Edwin Case to the top of Hershberger Mountain. They started at Cripple Camp and followed the winding trail up the mountain in what turned out to be an eight mile hike rather than the advertised five mile trek.

It rained almost constantly and there was enough wind to bring a large tree crashing down, luckily in the distance. The temperature was about 45 degrees which was perfect for hiking.

The group enjoyed the well maintained Hershberger Mountain Lookout which gave them shelter from the storm as they ate their lunch. Edwin, as hike leader, enjoyed a “paint can “throne”.

The trip down the mountain to the comforts of the car was much faster than the long trip up. The hikers who had enough gumption to hike despite the weather should feel proud of themselves.
