Graves Creek to Whisky Creek Cabin - Rogue River - February 14, 2015
Coordinator Edwin Case, narration by Lois Soulia and pictures by Diane Rannow and Kevin Bernhardt
Finally this winter Edwin was fortunate enough to lead a hike in beautiful weather. The sky was blue, no rain or wind, just a light breeze that soothed the hiker’s brow. The remnants of what had been amazing high water along the canyon showed the power of the weather earlier in the month. Twelve people and a couple of our well behaved dogs gathered for the hike. There were some new hikers to be welcomed.
Along the way to the trailhead were the resident goats which members of the club had chased off the road last year. The goats claimed the road again even though the fence had been improved. Richard met the group at the trailhead with plans to spend the night at Horseshoe Bend. It was great weather for a campout.
The trail is in good shape, even the spot where a creek washes over the trail wasn’t bad because the moss hadn’t grown enough to make the rocks slick. There were lots of fisherman along the river’s edge and even the rafters were already plentiful. The group ate lunch where two streams meet below Whisky Creek Cabin.
On the return trip, Edwin and Elona hiked on the other side of the river to Rainey Falls. It was a perfect day for a scenic hike. Thanks go to Edwin.
