North Bank Habitat - December 31, 2016
Coordinator John Malone, narration by Lois Soulia and pictures by Diane Rannow
Fourteen brave souls gathered to hike the North Bank on a cold and wet morning, including two new hikers. Arriving at the west entrance, close to Wilbur, the group noted the fog and threatening clouds hanging over the mountains but resolutely set off up the Chasm Creek Road Trail. Amazingly, the mud wasn’t too bad . Six hikers chose to follow the Chasm Creek route, to where it joins the North Gate Trail, a different approach from the usual descent from the Middle Ridge. The other eight hikers chose to follow the Bear Tree up to the Northern Boundary and then down to the Middle Ridge trail, for a longer more strenuous hike. It was a nice surprise when the two groups met at the picnic table at the junction for a snack at close to the same time.
There was a short period of sunshine and luckily the rain and snow came after everyone made it home after a stop at Lois’ Soup Kitchen.
Thanks are due John for leading such a great holiday hike.
